Bernardo is 2025 BAG Professorial Chair Awardee

Dr. Alejandro S. Bernardo of the University of Santo Tomas has been awarded the Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC Distinguished Professorial Chair in Linguistics and Language Education for 2025!


His lecture was held in Natividad Fajardo-Rosario Gonzalez Auditorium, 18/F Br. Andrew Gonzalez Hall at De La Salle University, Manila last February 22, 2025 at 10 AM to 12 PM.

Alejandro S. Bernardo, Ph.D. is a full professor in the Department of English at the University of Santo Tomas (UST). He has held several key leadership positions within UST, including Graduate School Faculty Secretary and Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Letters. Beyond UST, he has also made significant contributions to the academic community as president of the Linguistic Society of the Philippines and vice-chair of the Philippine Social Science Council. 


Dr. Bernardo is a researcher, mentor, accreditor, trainer, and textbook author. He serves on the editorial board of the Asian Journal of English Language Studies and is a referee for various local and international academic journals. His dedication to research has earned him accolades, including UST’s Gold Series Award, the Cardinal Ceferino Gonzales Award for Indexed Publications, and the 2025 Br. Andrew Gonzalez, FSC Distinguished Professorial Chair in Linguistics and Language Education. 


 

About the BAG Professorial Lecture

The Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC Distinguished Professorial Chair in Linguistics and Language Education is hosted by the Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) and is co-presented with the Department of English and Applied Linguistics (DEAL), Br. Andrew Gonzalez FSC College of Education (BAGCED), De La Salle University.


The BAG Professorial Lecture was established on February 29, 1996, and is managed in perpetuity by the De La Salle University Science Foundation, Inc. to honor an intellectual giant, a distinguished linguist, teacher, scholar, humanist, writer, administrator, a builder of persons and institutions, a man of vision and mission, a doer, a Christian brother, and a Filipino patriot.
